A new turbine-powered and futuristic-looking bus is making a trial run in Manhattan. The bus runs on batteries and a turbine powered generator, unlike other MTA hybrids, which use diesel engines...."The emissions will be far better, I mean it meets the EPA certification, just as our buses do, but the projection is that it will exceed that by even more. It's also quieter," said Jerry Higgins on the City Transit Department of Buses.

Airport Going Green With Hybrid Buses

Charlotte/Douglas International Airport is cleaning up its act - at least when it comes to ferrying passengers and others around the complex. The airport is buying two hybrid-powered buses, which are more fuel-efficient than standard ones, for $ 880,000. "It's for the environment," says Jerry Orr, city aviation director...Plus, the turbine-engine system of the new buses will eliminate about 95% of the greenhouse-gas emissions, Orr says.

Micro turbine engines: In two California central offices, Verizon is using micro turbines fired by natural gas to generate electricity. The turbines provide approximately 50 percent of the electricity required in each central office, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by an equivalent of taking 800 passenger cars off the road for one year.
